ACRE
Academics Craving Reimbursement for Everything
Academics Craving Reimbursement for Everything (ACRE) is a historic new organization celebrating the financial value of physician-industry collaboration and relationships. The organization provides a forum for physicians who want to make a lot of money to meet with industry partners who have a lot money.
ACRE is a non-profit professional organization co-founded by the owner of a Medical Education and Communication Company. Like any MECC, his firm makes money by soliciting drug company grants to produce "continuing medical education." The drug companies aren't allowed to pay doctors directly to teach the courses, because then the promotional nature of CME would be too obvious. Instead, the MECC deposits the drug company's cash into its own account, then cuts a fat check for the doctor. The old fashioned term for this process is "money laundering."

ACRE is to be a forum for a hitherto silent majority of doctors which believes that a small but well organized coterie of do-gooders are conspiring to prevent them from buying that third home on the lake.
